Learn to Live in Solitude
If you truly wish to discover yourself, you must learn to live in solitude. Your truth will dawn on you only in silence and solitude. You can experience the solitude when you participate in Advance Course offered by Art of Living residential program.
Similarly, when you participate in Vippasana Meditation – a 10 days residential program; you can experience solitude. There are only two types of people who are comfortable in it: the lazy and the yogi. The lazy person lacks awareness while the yogi radiates with it.
By solitude, I don’t mean that you live in a remote place but have access to TV, and Internet etc.
Being in a solitude means you are just by yourself. The only person you have to talk to you is yourself. The only person you have to listen to is yourself. And the only object of engagement for your mind is you.
When you are bored, you go back to yourself. When you are happy, you share it with yourself. During the practice of solitude, you don’t even see others, let alone meet them or talk to them. The only person you get to see is you.
If you are in solitude and have engaged your mind in reading writing or other similar activities, that is still a solitude. It’s not the finest type though, it’s more like a pseudo solitude.
The ultimate solitude is when you are aware of each passing moment, you are not dull and you are not sleepy, you are awake and alert, and, at that, you don’t feel restless; you don’t feel the urge to always do ‘something’. You are at peace within.
Once you have mastered the art of living in solitude without fail, you will always be in it even amidst the greatest crowd. Your quietude remains unaffected by the noise outside. Your inner world stays insulated from the outer one.
May God bless you with Peace, Happiness, Health and Wealth!
